The Joys Of Learning English
Some of my friends are puzzled that I have chosen English as my major to have a further study in college.They believe that their majors like electronic machinery and civil engineering are hopefully promising and that my choice,learning English is not wise .I, however,think English Study has brought me rewards , including practical use andainner satisfaction.
One obvious reward of learning English is practical use .I firstly have more opportunities to open up my new horizon in daily life . Spending much more time in learning it enables me to view popular English TV shows or read some English periodicals and classics . That spurs me to know more about something western , like lifestyles or thinking patterns ,by which , my knowledge reserves and horizon naturally are expanded . English study also is an advantageous skill for career development .With the encrease in cost of filling the vacant positions ,many foreign employers are more willing to hire a technical talent mastering English rather than spend more money on hiring a technical talent and an English one . Learning English Clearly gives a great advantage of getting a job.
More important , Learning English is joyful because the inner satisfaction it gives .I felt excited and fulfilled when I figured out the beauty of a word or true intention of the author .Two weeks ago ,I was asked to finish an English writing about an emotion .I did not do well in the first two times , although I employed all my energies in it .When my teacher reminded me to pay attention to one word emotion , I leaped to a conclusion that I just narrated an event rather than described an emotion . I finally did an excellent revised manuscript. That improvement in English study made me attain a sense of satisfaction although it was a small step in learning it.
Some people may think English study wastes much time and energy and is barely useful .In fact , I am pleased with English study in that it is useful in daily life now and my future career , and most of all , it gives me a inner satisfaction .

Aa soon as I was eolled in college I reit a big burden off my mind. So did my classmates. We just wanted to relax. But at our first English Lesson on how to improve our study the teacher told us," There is no end to learning. You can only become a top student with additional work." And she says hard work is rewarding.
The teacher?s words awakened me. In fact everyone in the world is always learning. Man?s talents are like wild plants. They need cutting and pruning with the tool of learning, We lears not only inside the classroom but also outside the classroom. Learning is a process in which man adapts to his sroundings. It is driven by man?s desire to win respect and to contribute to society. It is the curiosity for knowledge stimulated by knowledge itself ." To learn is to be young. Not to learn is to die." This saying applies to every society and to all ages.
Indeed, everyone living on earth is learning all the time. Man learns not only from books but also from his own experience We can not hope that as long as we learn we will gain benlfits. Efficient study is inseparable from good methods and motivation, A man of a strong sense of responsibility and full of ambition is insatiable in learning.
I entered the university after much efforts. I know it is only the first step on the road leading to the sea of knowledge. It is but the first page in the book of science. The further away ! am off shore, the more far-sighted! will be. The more you learn. the more you feel the need to learn. Art is long, life is short.

How to Improve Your English Reading
To improve your English reading? you should? first of all? choose something you feel important or interesting to read. Dont try to read everything. You should begin with those written in simple English. Dont read those which prove difficult for you at the very beginning.
While reading? dont read too slowly or look up every new word you meet with. After reading a passage and having its main idea in mind? you may turn back and read it again. This time you read it slowly and look up some new words if necessary. Keep on reading in this way and youll surely make progress little by little.
Knowledge or Experience
Directions? You are allowed 40 minutes to write an essay no less than 150 words on the following topic.
1.some emphasize book knowledge
2.others stress practical experience
3.which one is more important? Give your reasons to illustrate your opinion.

Which is more important in life? knowledge from the books
you read? or personal experience you gain in reality? The answer may vary from person to person. The young? educated may emphasize the former? and the old may stress the later. But in my opinion? they are of the same importance.
Experience is priceless. How to become an efficient secretary? How to prepare for your first child to come into the world? There is so much experience we need in careers? in life and even in academic studies. It helps one deal with the problems with ease and confidence. Especially activities and to accumulate experience of different kinds is more crucial.
Experience? however? is limited in terms of time and space. For one thing? it is impossible for anyone to experience all the important events and meet all the famous people. For another? as the speed with which skills are obsolete and new problems crop up is unprecedented because of the fast development of society? experience is far less adequate. Depending too much on it only leads to narrow-mindedness and prejudice.
One way to compensate for it is to read books. Books of various kinds can bring us almost unlimited additional experience. From books you can not only trace back to the wisdom
of our antecedents? but keep up with the latest developments of science and technology. To be sure? its secondhand experience. But it is the ideal supplement to our own limited experience. Few of us can travel around the world? or live long beyond one hundred years? but all of us can live many lives by reading books.
Both book knowledge and personal experience are essential. While experience makes one more resourceful? book knowledge makes one more learned.
About Review(????)
As we all know, there are three stages in study preview, study in class and review, among which review is the most important. From my experience, Id like to talk about the importance of review. Firstly, make a review plan with certain contents of subjects at a certain time. Secondly, carry on the review plan regularly. Thirdly, examine what has been reviewed and make up in time. One thing to remember is to keep notes all the time. I follow my review plan strictly and have made progress in my study. It turns out to be good enough. Of course, there is more than one way to review. So long as we review regularly, we can find more ways to improve our studies.

Learn English with DVD movies(????????)
Have you ever learned English by watching English DVD movies? Is that an effective English learning method for you? Why?
Watching English DVD movies is a very effective method of learning English. I learnt English at college at home. As a natural result of insufficient English speaking environment, my speaking and listening abilities were not developed satisfactorily, although my reading and writing abilities were quite all right. I remember my experience during a summer vacation when I made plans to watch 10 original English movies (I mean those not dubbed.) including the classic Casablanca,
Rebecca, A Tale of Two Cities, and Little Women.
I persistently carried out my plan and each of the films I watched a dozen times until I could recite most of the dialogues. At the end of that summer vacation, I found I became nearly as fluent as a native English speaker.
The Ways of Reading(????)
We may obtain knowledge by reading. The more books we read, the more we accumulate the knowledge. Is it right? I dont think so. Its not wide reading but useful reading that leads to excellence. And only good books can benefit us.
So choosing books is very important for reading. Many students spend a lot of time reading legends and swordsman novels. Its a waste of time. Some students even read some bad books and it is harmful for them.
So be as careful of the books we read, as of the company we keep, for our habit and character will be as much influenced by the former as by the latter.
